Alexander Advances to Finals

Kineke Alexander helped the University of Iowa women’s track and field team get off to a good start on Friday night. The freshman won the preliminary running of the 400-meter dash in 53.11 to advance to the final heat today.

Senior Aisha Hume ran a collegiate best 2:08.50 in the 800 meters, beating her previous mark by one second. Freshman Meghan Armstrong also competed in the preliminary heat of the 1,500-meter run but results could not be obtained from the NCAA. Alexander Ashley Granger, Tiffany Johnson and Peaches Roach qualified for the 4×100 meter relay, but were disqualified.

Saturday afternoon, sophomore Roach will look for gold in the high jump and senior Kamesha Marshall will compete in the shot put. Johnson will also compete for the Hawks in the triple jump. Lindsey McCalla, Alexander, Hume, and Erin Sheeley run in the 4×400 meter relay today, as well. The finals of all running events are also today.
