Hawkeye Throwers Compete At USATF National Championships

CARSON, CA – University of Iowa track and field competitors Adam Hamilton and Mark Schaapveld competed at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, last weekend in Carson, CA. All events were held at The Home Depot Center.

Hamilton, a junior from Milford, NH, placed 14th in the men’s senior national hammer throw Friday with a toss of 210-1. Schaapveld, a redshirt freshman from Iowa City, IA, placed 12th in the men’s junior national hammer throw Saturday with a throw of 167-7. Hamilton, who redshirted the 2005 outdoor season, was a hammer throw all-American in 2004, placing 10th at the NCAA Championships. His collegiate-best throw of 208-11 ranks third on Iowa’s all-time best performers list. Schaapveld, who redshirted the 2005 college track season, won three conference titles for Iowa City West High School.
