IOWA CITY, IA — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in first place after playing the first day at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate. The Hawkeyes lead with 612 strokes. Southwest Missouri State University is second with a score of 637.
Iowa players hold the first three positions after day one. Freshman Tyrette Metzendorf (Winter Haven, FL) is first, sophomore Melanie Boyles (Tempe, AZ) is second, and sophomore Jill Marcum (Clarinda, IA) is third. Metzendorf fired a two-under par and is eight strokes ahead of Boyles. Junior Amy Riepma (Clear Lake, IA) is seventh with a score of eight-over par. Junior Karla Murra (Sioux Falls, SD) is tied for 28th after day one. The Hawkeyes are trying to repeat as Hawkeye Intercollegiate champions.
Iowa will play the remaining 18 holes tomorrow at Finkbine Golf Course at 9 a.m.
