Hawkeyes Swept by Wake Forest

ARLINGTON, TX – The University of Iowa volleyball team was swept by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the final game of the UTA Invitational in Arlington, TX, Saturday. Iowa dropped the first two games 30-27, then lost the final game 30-26. The Hawkeyes are now 6-3 on the season.

Wake Forest pounded the ball in game one, hitting at an amazing .567 clip for the game. Iowa still led the game most of the way, but the hot-hitting Demon Deacons tied things up at 23-23, then held on for the 30-27 win.

The Hawkeyes cooled off the Wake Forest hitters in game two (.149 attack percentage), but weren’t able to get much offense of their own going, either, hitting .176 for the game. After Wake Forest took an early lead, Iowa came back to get a 10-9 advantage. The Deacs came right back and regained the lead, this time holding it through the finish. Melanie Meister was Iowa’s top attacker in game two, recording four kills and hitting at a .500 clip.

In game three, Wake Forest led from the outset in completing the sweep.

Iowa will travel to South Carolina next weekend to participate in the Coastal Carolina Tournament.
