The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished in 12th place in the 54-hole Mary Fossum Invitational on the par-72 Forest Akers West Golf Course. Iowa finished with a final score of 939. Host school Michigan State (889) won the 15-team tournament by eight strokes over second place Southern Methodist (897).
Sophomore Jill Marcum (Clarinda, IA) carded a low score of 74 (+2) in the final round Sunday. This shot her from finishing in 35th place yesterday to ending the tournament in a three-way tie for 26th place. Sophomore Melanie Boyles (Tempe, AZ) finished in a tie for 40th after stroking 235 (75-79-81). Freshman Tyrette Metzendorf (Winter Haven, FL) shot a 77 (+5) today to finish in a tie for 54th. Northwestern’s Jennifer Hong and Kent State’s Becky Wood tied for first, firing a four-over par 220.
The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday and Sunday to compete at the Lady Northern Invitational in Bloomington, IN.
