Iowa To Compete In Lady Northern Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, IN

THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s golf team will travel to Bloomington, IN Saturday and Sunday to compete in the 12-team Lady Northern Invitational, hosted by Indiana University. The tournament will be played on the par-72 (6,142 yards) Indiana University Championship Golf Course. The teams will play 36-holes Saturday and 18 Sunday, with a shotgun start at 8:30 each day (CST).

THE COMPETITION — The competing teams include: Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue, Penn State, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

LINEUP — Five players will compete with the lowest four scores counting. Five of the six players will compete: Jill Marcum, Melanie Boyles, Tyrette Metzendorf, Amy Riepma, Karla Murra and Maggie Gelber.

LAST COMPETITION — Last week the Hawkeyes finished 12th at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, MI. Iowa carded a 939 with a low round of 308. Sophomore Jill Marcum led the Hawkeyes with a score of 230 (+14) to finish in a three-way tie for 26th.

LADY NORTHERN INVITATIONAL HISTORY — Last fall Iowa finished 13th in the 15-team tournament and carded a 54-hole score of 957.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Bobbe Carney — “We are working on making our weaknesses our strengths this week. Five of our six players are familiar with the IU course whereas last week the course was new to everyone. I think this will improve our comfort factor.”
