Hawkeyes To Compete in Legends of Golf Shoot-out

FRANKLIN, IN

THIS WEEK — The women’s golf team will travel to Franklin, IN this weekend to compete in the Legends of Golf Shoot-Out at the par-72 Legends of Indiana Golf Course. The teams will play 36-holes Monday and 18 Tuesday with an 8 a.m. start both days.

THE COMPETITION — The competing teams include: Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Louisville, Northern Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Notre Dame, Illinois State, Georgetown, Rutgers, Toledo, Missouri, Southern Illinois, Illinois, St. Johns, Iowa, Campbell, Cincinnati and Ohio University.

LINEUP — Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Maggie Gelber, Jill Marcum, Tyrette Metzendorf, Karla Murra and Amy Riepma.

Jill Marcum Marcum, a sophomore, led the Hawkeyes in their last competition that included a career best 72. She has been Iowa’s leading scorer in two of three tournaments this season.

LAST COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes finished tenth at the Lady Northern Invitational September 24-25 in Bloomington, IN. Iowa carded a 925 with a low round of 300. Marcum led the Hawkeyes with a score of 229 (+13) to finish in a tie for 23rd.

LEGENDS OF GOLF SHOOT-OUT HISTORY — The last time the Hawkeyes competed in the Legends of Golf Shoot-Out was in 2003. The Hawkeyes finished 12th out of 18 teams in the 54-hole tournament. Karla Murra is the only current player who has played in this competition. She fired a low round of 75 in 2003.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Bobbe Carney — “It is going to be a strong field with a wide variety of teams. This is a pretty big tournament and if we play the way I know we are capable of playing we should finish strong.”
