IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in the annual Black & Gold Intrasquad meet Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse Pool. The event was close throughout and came down to the last relay to decide the winner. The Gold Team won the final relay to secure the victory.
Freshman Ashley Dell won three events, including the first two women’s individual events of the afternoon. Dell posted winning times in the 1000 free (10:25.11), 200 free (1:55.95) and the 500 free (5:07.84). Junior Emmy Haeger finished first in both the 50 free (24.51) and 200 breast (2:24.68).
Junior Nick Divan won the 200 free (1:45.32) and 500 free (4:43.36) while sophomore Dragos Agache posted first place times in the 50 free (22.55) and 200 breast (2:08.98).
The teams split the relay events, each winning two. The Gold team won the women’s 200 yard medley and 400 free relay while the Black team won the men’s 200 yard medley and 400 free relay.
The Hawkeyes officially open up the 2005-06 season on the road against Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The co-ed meet is scheduled for October 13 at 4:30 p.m. in Madison, WI.
