Hawkeyes Announce Little Spikers Program

Oct. 18, 2005

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa volleyball team will host three, hour-long volleyball clinics this fall with their new Little Spikers program. The first Little Spikers session will be held on October 29 at 10 a.m. in the Robert A. Lee Rec Center. The second will be November 12 at 9 a.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, followed by a November 26 session at 10:30 a.m. in the Field House.

The Little Spikers program is open to girls and boys ages 5-11. Children are taught volleyball basics by the Hawkeye coaches and players, using special lightweight training volleyballs and a lower net. The Little Spikers will get a chance to demonstrate their skills following game two of the final home match against Illinois on November 26.

“We started a program just like this at Washington State 14 years ago, and it was a great success,” Iowa Head Coach Cindy Fredrick said. “It is a great way for the volleyball program to give back to the community, while getting the next generation of Hawkeyes interested in volleyball.”

Registration is $15, covers all three sessions and includes a Hawkeye Volleyball t-shirt.
