COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming team sit in sixth place after day one of the Ohio State Invitational.

The women were led by senior Nancilea Underwood, who finished second in the 3-meter. Underwood’s score of 331.05 was more than 40 points better than her preliminary score. The 400 medley relay team of Kelly Werner, Emmy Haeger, Andrea Hemphill and Katie Martin finished fourth with 3:51.44, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Martin, Karen Kelly, Robin Samples and Haeger finished in seventh place with 1:36.11. In the 200 individual medley, senior Kelly Werner finished in a time of 2:06.35 and was the highest finish of any Hawkeye on the first day. Senior Andrea Hemphill finished close behind at 2:08.01. Katie Martin finished in 24.01 in the 50 freestyle and Karen Kelly followed at 24.46.

The men were led by freshman Nick Divan who took 11th in the 500 freestyle (4:34.62). Senior Trevor Haley came in 15th in the 200 individual medley (1:55.14). The team of Cade Ashby, Paul Divan, James Dragon and Cameron Dye finished in 12th in the 400 medley relay with 3:28.79. The 200 freestyle team of Nathan Keeling, Cade Ashby, Cameron Dye and Seth Tweedy finished in 1:27.50, for 13th.

The men and women will continue competing tomorrow in the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion, with preliminary rounds at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Diving will take place at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Fans can follow with live stats at www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
