Hawkeye Men and Women Finish Sixth

COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming team competed on the third and final day of the Ohio State Invitational Sunday. The men finished in sixth place with 164 points and the women ended in sixth with 274.50.

The men were led by the Divan brothers; freshman Nick Divan placed fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (15:52.10) while brother junior Paul Divan came in seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.41). Senior Trevor Haley posted a 1:53.54 time in the 200 butterfly, along with Nathan Keeling (1:58.11) and James Dragon (1:57.66). The 400 freestyle relay team of Cameron Dye, Seth Tweedy, Nathan Keeling and Andy Miner placed 13th with a 3:11.72.

The women were led by senior Kelly Werner who finished fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.38). Werner, along with Katie Martin, Karen Kelly and Andrea Hemphill placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:31.38). Freshman Alison Gschwend also competed in the 200 backstroke, coming in 11th at 2:05.86. Junior Emmy Haeger finished 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.77), while senior Andrea Hemphill came in 12th in the 200 butterfly (2:08.05). Junior Erin Petty placed 17th in the 200 butterfly at 2:10.71.

The Hawkeye women will return to action on Friday, December 9th, when they travel to Iowa State. That action is slated for 7 p.m. in the Beyer Pool in Ames. The men will next compete during their annual training trip to Hawaii, January 2-12. Follow www.hawkeyesports.com for updates.
