The University of Iowa men’s track team wrapped up competition today in the Panther Invitational in Cedar Falls, IA. Teams from Bradley, Minnesota, Iowa and Northern Iowa competed in the two-day event. Five Hawkeyes took home gold in four individual events.
Junior Adam Hamilton provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw with a mark of 63-4.25 feet. The Hawkeyes took first through fifth place in the weight throw and went one through four in the shot put. Sophomore Shane Maier won the shot put with a toss of 57-4.25 feet. Senior Tony Rakaric won the mile in 4:22.70. Freshman Tommy Tate picked up his first collegiate gold in the 3,000 meters (8:53.86) and classmate Prince Riley also won the 400 meters (50.17). Ten student-athletes also set new personal best marks in their respective events.
The men split up next week to compete in two different meets. One group will head to New York, NY, to compete in the New Balance Invite while another group will compete in the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, IN.
