RIO VERDE, AZ —
The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in third place after playing 18 holes at the Rio Verde Invitational Thursday. Northwestern is in first in the 17-team tournament with a score of 302 (+18). The Hawkeyes carded a 307 (+24) after the first round.
At the end of day one, freshman Tyrette Metzendorf leads the Hawkeyes with a 75 (+4) to put her in fourth. Junior Amy Riepma shot a five over par 76, to put her in a tie for 12th. Karla Murra fired a 78 (+7) for 22nd. Melanie Boyles and Maggie Gelber are both in 33rd after shooting 79 (+8).
The tournament will continue tomorrow with the next 18-holes at the White Wing Golf Course in Rio Verde, AZ. The final 18-holes will be played on Saturday.
