Several distance runners of the University of Iowa men’s and women’s track teams traveled to sunny California to compete in the Stanford Invitational this weekend. While there, the Hawkeyes competed against runners from around the nation including Brigham Young, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Yale, Washington, Washington State, and Auburn.
Junior Micah VanDenend set a school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:55.96 and qualified for the NCAA regional meet. VanDenend broke the school’s 38-year-old record that was held by Iowa Head Coach Larry Wieczorek. Dan Haut also qualified for the NCAA regional meet in the 5,000 meters.
