IOWA CITY – University of Iowa athletes are out to show that a little caring can make a difference. Over 200 Hawkeye men’s and women’s athletes are expected to participate in the 8th annual Hawkeye Day of Caring, Sunday, April 23 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 pm.
The student athletes will work with many agencies around the Iowa City area, including the Ronald McDonald House, Greenwood Manor, the Mayor’s Youth Empowerment Program, the Women’s Resource and Action Center, and Local Food Connection.
Student athletes will spend time with seniors at retirement and nursing homes and with youth at the local neighborhood centers. They will clean up facilities, yards and local parks. They will serve meals to seniors.
Hawkeye Day of Caring is the brainchild of the Iowa Student Athlete Advisory Committee (ISAAC), whose goal is to increase the level of community service among its teams and individuals. The group has successfully undertaken Day of Caring activities the last seven years.
