Hawkeyes Earn Academic Honors

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming teams earned academic all-America team status from the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Hawkeye men’s team earned the honor with a combined grade-point average of 2.90, while the women’s squad posted a team GPA of 3.23. American University led the men’s teams (3.48), while Georgetown University led the women (3.61).

Hawkeye senior Nancilea Underwood earned individual academic all-America honors by posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher and qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Underwood earned a 3.64 GPA and achieved all-America honors in one and three-meter diving at the 2006 national meet.

Earning honorable mention all-America honors for the Hawkeyes were seniors Katie Martin (3.77) and Karen Kelly (3.76), junior Robin Samples (3.53) and freshman Chelsea Hoff (3.52). To qualify for honorable mention academic all-America honors, student-athletes must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and achieve NCAA “B” qualifying standards.
