Hawkeyes Host Black and Gold Scrimmage

IOWA CITY – The Hawkeyes will host their annual Black and Gold Scrimmage Friday at 7 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

The Hawkeyes will kick-off the 2006 season by hosting the Hawkeye Challenge August 25-26. Iowa will welcome Drake, Chicago State and Iowa State.

Iowa State and Chicago State will open the Challenge Friday at 4:30 p.m, followed by Iowa’s season debut against Drake at 7 p.m. Coach Cindy Fredrick’s team will then take on Chicago State Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by Iowa State vs. Drake at Noon and Drake vs. Chicago State at 5 p.m. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones will wrap-up the tournament at 7 p.m.

“We’re really looking forward to getting out on the court this season,” Fredrick said. “We feel like we are to the point that we can start expecting to see some results. Over the past two years we have made good strides. We’ve played a lot of young players and watched them grow a lot on the court. Now we should see some improvements this season.”
