A Busy Weekend

Aug. 16, 2006

Fans of the nationally ranked University of Iowa Hawkeyes – young and old alike – are reminded that the fifth annual Iowa Football Kids Day will be staged at 10 a.m., Saturday, at historic Kinnick Stadium.

Because of the on-going renovation to the home of the Hawkeyes, fans attending this year’s event will have access to only the east and south grandstands. Fans will be allowed to enter at Gates A (south), M (southeast) and K (east).

All three exhibition events scheduled for Saturday on the UI campus are open to the public and a free.

The 2006 Iowa Hawkeyes will begin a team practice at approximately 10:45 a.m. The practice will continue until approximately 1 p.m. when a 30-minute autograph session will begin. To secure autographs, fans will be asked to gather in row 1 of the east grandstand and south grandstand. Fans will not be allowed on the playing field.

Fans attending Kids Day will have a chance to experience some of the improvements made to the 76-year-old home of Iowa’s varsity football facility as a result of the two-year, $89 million renovation project. Most notably, the UI will be offering discounted food items from the new concessions stands in the east grandstand.

Two other UI teams will also be in action on Saturday. Coach Tracey Griesbaum’s nationally ranked Iowa field hockey team will scrimmage against Missouri State at 1 p.m. on Grant Field located directly west of the UI Athletics Hall of Fame at the corner of Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard.

Coach Ron Rainey’s Iowa soccer team will scrimmage Winona State at 3 p.m. at the Iowa Soccer Field also located west of the UI Athletics Hall of Fame.

There is no admission fee for any of the events scheduled for Saturday.
