Two Hawkeye Runners Become All-Americans

TERRE HAUTE, IN –

The men and women’s cross country teams competed in the final meet of the season at the NCAA championships. Running in Terre Haute, IN, the women completed a 6,000-meter course while the men ran 10,000-meters.

The junior dominated women’s team returned to the NCAA championship meet after a 14 year drought. Leading the Hawkeyes to a 17th place finish was junior Diane Nukuri (8th, 21:05). Crossing the finish line second for the Hawkeyes was junior Rachael Marchand (30th, 21:18). Nukuri and Marchand strong efforts leading the Hawkeyes earned them All-American honors. Other Hawkeye runners were junior Meghan Armstrong (43rd, 21:33), junior Jessica Schmidt (202nd, 23:05), freshman Jolly Burke (211st, 23:20), freshman Krista Anderson (225th, 23:35), and junior Molly Esche (247th, 24:25). The strong efforts of Nukuri and Marchand have all earned them All-American honors. Taking the team NCAA champion title was Standford, scoring 195 points and posting an average team time of 21:31. Individual NCAA champion was awarded to sophomore Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech finishing the course in a time of 20:11.
