THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s swimming team is in Miami, Florida, for its annual Winter Training Trip. The team will compete at the Florida International Invite on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

SEASON BESTS — In the past two meets (Ohio State Invite and Iowa State) the Hawkeyes have posted 49 season-best times by 19 different athletes.

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK — Sophomore Alison Gschwend earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for her performance against rival Iowa State. Gschwend earned her first collegiate accolade with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke, and as the lead-leg of the 200 medley relay team. She placed second in the 200 individual medley with a career-best time of 2:09.43.

INKED UP — Head Coach Marc Long announced the signing of seven recruits in the fall signing period. The women’s team added four members and the men’s team three. Four of the seven signees are Iowa natives, with one being the daughter of Diving Coach Bob Ryzde.

THE LAST COMPETITION — The Iowa women last competed on December 8th, when they hosted intra-state rival Iowa State. The Hawkeyes won 10 of 16 events en route to a 181.5-117.5 win. Sophomores Ashley Dell and Alison Gschwend, along with freshman Margie Chamberlin, all recorded two individual wins.

“This was a great win over an in-state rival. We worked hard and got the victory over a good Iowa State team” said Head Coach Marc Long.
