Burke Continues With Post-Season Success

BOULDER, CO –

Freshman Jolly Burke represented the University of Iowa women’s cross country team at the U.S. Junior Cross Country meet Saturday Februray 10th in Boulder, Colorado. Running among junior runners from across the nation in a 6,000-meter race, Burke placed fifth in a time of 22:16. Burke’s fifth place finish qualified her for the U.S. Junior Team that will compete March 24th in Mombasa, Kenya.

During the 2006 cross country season Burke, a native of Waunakee, WI, helped the Hawkeyes end a 13-year drought with a team appearance in the NCAA Championships. The freshman posted a season-best time of 16:59 at the Auburn Invitational in the 5,000-meter race helping the Hawkeyes claim the Auburn Invitational title. Other season-best times for Burke were: 3,000-meter (10:43) and 6,000-meter (22:10).

“To qualify and represent the United States at the World Cross Country Championships is truly the pinnacle of our sports,” comments Head Coach Layne Anderson. “This accomplishment is well deserved as she has logged many miles and will be a building block to a great future.”
