THIS WEEK — Freshmen divers Michael Gilligan and Deidre Freeman will be competing at the NCAA diving qualifier Friday through Sunday. The event will take place at the Canham Natatorium at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
MEET SCHEDULE — Friday’s action includes women’s three-meter and men’s one-meter. Saturday will be women’s one-meter and men’s three-meter. Sunday will be platform diving. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) Friday and Saturday, with finals at 12:45 p.m. Sunday’s women’s platform prelims will be at 10 a.m. with finals at Noon. Men’s platform prelims will be at 1:45 p.m. with finals at 4 p.m.
LAST COMPETITION — Freeman last competed at the Big Ten championships February 8-10, and Gilligan competed at the men’s Big Ten meet February 16-18. Gilligan placed eighth on the platform board with a school-record 327.60.
DUO KNOWS SUCCESS — This season Freeman won the one-meter competition against Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and she won the three-meter against Illinois. She was second on the one-meter against Southern Illinois and Illinois. Gilligan won the one-meter at Michigan State. He recorded seconds on the one-meter against Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the three-meter against Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, at Michigan State and against Southern Illinois.
DIVING COACH Bob Rydze — Bob Rydze is in his 32nd year as diving coach at the University of Iowa He is the dean of Big Ten diving coaches. During his tenure with the Hawkeyes, Rydze has coached 30 all-Americans, nine Big Ten and one NCAA Champion.
