Hawkeyes Earn Individual and Team All-Academic Honors

Feb. 27, 2007

IOWA CITY, IA – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association have announced the all-academic honors for the 2006 cross country season. The Hawkeyes earned all-academic honors with a team GPA of 3.06. Junior Eric MacTaggart earned individual all-academic honors for the Hawkeyes.

In order to receive this honor, teams must compete in an NCAA regional meet and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Iowa competed this fall in the Midwest regional meet, finishing third place as Micah VanDenend won the individual title. MacTaggart placed 17th (31:21) at the regional meet and 66th (32:12) at the NCAA Championships. A solid team effort at the regional meet helped the Hawkeyes claim a spot in the NCAA Championship meet.

“All of our team goals start with academics,” commented Head Coach Larry Wieczorek. “To meet the team goal GPA is a great accomplishment. It is great to see Eric (MacTaggart) continue to be leader for our team.”
