THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s golf team travels to Coto de Caza, CA, to compete at the 54-hole Anteater Invitational, March 26-27. The meet is hosted by the University of California-Irvine at Dove Canyon Golf Course. The teams will play 36-holes Monday and 18-holes Tuesday. There will be a 10:30 a.m. (CST) shotgun start each day.

THE COMPETITION — The 15 competing teams include: Iowa, UC Irvine, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Nevada, Fresno State, Cal Poly, Kennesaw State, Montana, Mississippi, CS San Marcos, Sacramento State, UC Davis, UC Riverside and CS Northridge.

LINEUP — The lineup for the Hawkeyes will be Maggie Gelber, Jill Marcum, Tyrette Metzendorf, Karla Murra and Amy Riepma.

LAST TIME OUT — At the Lady Longhorn Invite, Iowa finished 13th (15 teams). The Hawkeyes posted a 957 after 54-holes in Austin, TX. Murra led Iowa, finishing tied for 24th. She posted a 234 (+18).

RETURNING HOME — Head Coach Kelly Crawford spent six seasons as California-Irvine’s head coach before coming to Iowa. She was UCI’s first head women’s golf coach. She guided teams to three conference championships and three appearances in the West Regional of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships (2002, 2005 and 2006).

SENIORS — The 2007 seniors are making a big impact. Murra has led the Hawkeyes in five tournaments and Riepma has led Iowa in one. Murra’s 217 in the final tournament of the spring etched her name in Iowa’s record book for best 54-hole performance.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford — “I’m looking forward to the UC Irvine tournament for obvious reasons. The team got off to a good start this spring and I continue to be optimistic. We’re taking each tournament as one more step to prepare for conference meet at the end of April. Success at the Anteater Invitational will be good momentum for the team.”

NEXT COMPETITION — Iowa competes at the Indiana Invitational April 8-9.
