University of Iowa Head Men’s Golf Coach Terry Anderson has stepped down after 13 seasons with the Hawkeyes. Anderson will remain as Director of Golf Operations at Finkbine Golf Course through this golf season.
Assistant Coach Adam Kaufman will lead practices and travel with the team to the Hawkeyes’ final three competitions of the season.
“It was an honor to be a part of an athletic department in the Big Ten Conference,” said Anderson. “I was blessed to be on the same staff with other great Hawkeye coaches during my tenure, and to be able to use them as a resource was a tremendous experience. Having a positive impact on student-athletes will be a memory I will always cherish. Thanks to the great Hawkeye fans for their support of Iowa Athletics. It was an honor to represent them. Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye!”
Anderson has served as head coach since 1994. Under Anderson, the Hawkeyes produced 34 academic all-Big Ten selections, seven all-American scholars, two all-Big Ten selections, two members of the all-District golf team and one all-American.
In 1995, Anderson’s team qualified for the NCAA regionals and nationals; the Hawkeyes placed 26th overall in the 1995 national tournament.
Anderson also served as the head professional at Finkbine Golf Course. In 2004, he was recognized as the Iowa PGA Section Professional of the Year. In 1998, he was named Iowa Golf Association Golf Pro of the Year.
“We are saddened to see Terry leave our coaching ranks,” said Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta. “He has devoted a great deal of time and energy to the leadership of our men’s golf program and the development of numerous student-athletes at The University of Iowa. Terry has also touched the lives of many golfers in the greater Iowa community and we look forward to his ongoing direction of Finkbine Golf Course.”
