Becca Franklin Sets Record In Hammer Throw

Columbia, MO –

The University of Iowa women’s track team competed at the Missouri Relays on the campus of the University of Missouri today. The Hawkeyes competed in four events, and had a strong showing in each event. Senior Becca Franklin took the spotlight by improving her school record in the hammer throw by over five feet.

On her way to breaking the school record, Franklin bettered her regional qualifying mark and placed third in the event with a toss of 187-6. The previous school record stood at 181-11, which she set during the 2005 season at the Musco Twilight meet in Iowa City.

Junior Molly Esche had a career day as well. She placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a career best time of 10:22.11. Taking third in the long jump was Renee White with a season best leap of 19-1 ¼.

The Hawkeyes continue competition Saturday, 9 a.m. at the Missouri Relays in Columbia, MO, and at 1 p.m. at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA.
