Roach, Hamilton Are All-Americans

June 8, 2007

SACRAMENTO, CA –

University of Iowa seniors Adam Hamilton and Peaches Roach ended their Hawkeye careers on a high note by earning all-America honors at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday in Sacramento, CA. Hamilton and Roach join junior Diane Nukuri, who earned all-America honors in the 10,000 meters Thursday night.

Hamilton was the first to earn the honor Friday, placing ninth in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 211-7. The top eight placewinners and the top eight American finishers in each event are named all-Americans. Kansas’ Egor Agafonov, who placed fourth in the event, is a Russian native, so Hamilton was one of the top eight American finishers. He is the ninth two-time all-American in Hawkeye school history and Iowa’s third all-American in the hammer throw.

Roach became a four-time all-American in the high jump by placing seventh with a leap of 5-10 3/4. She is the only Hawkeye in school history to earn multiple all-America honors in a field event. Junior Tammilee Kerr finished the heptathlon in 22nd place with 5,204 points. During Friday’s portion of the competition, she placed fourth in the javelin (142-1), 23rd in the 800 meters (2:29.44) and 24th in the long jump (17-6 3/4).

Junior Kineke Alexander won her heat in the 400-meter semifinals Thursday, running a season-best time of 51.80. That time is the fourth-fastest entering Saturday’s final. She will race for her second national title in the 400 meters Saturday at 12:44 p.m. (CT). Alexander, who is a five-time all-American in that event, won the 400 meters at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships.
