The University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the position of Athletics Academic Coordinator/Advisor.
Responsibilities: Monitor the academic progress and assist with the certification of student athletes in cooperation with the university assigned advisors, provide academic and career counseling to student athletes, communicate students’ academic progress to coaches and athletics administrators, teach student transition seminar, develop and conduct educational and life skills programs, and serve as liaison to academic departments and student services offices.
Required qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; progressive experience in advising and counseling student athletes in a Division I academic support program for student athletes; demonstrated success in the planning and implementation of Life Skills programs for Division I student-athletes; working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Preferred qualifications: Minimum of six months to one year advising and counseling Division I student-athletes is highly desirable; experience in working with a culturally and ethnically diverse student-athlete population.
Salary is commensurate; starting date of August 13, 2007 or negotiable.
