Hawkeyes Earn National And Regional Rankings

IOWA CITY, IA –

IOWA CITY, IA — The University of Iowa women’s cross country team is ranked in the nation’s top 30 in the first United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings of the year. Both the Hawkeye men and women’s teams are ranked in the top of the Midwest region. The Hawkeye women are ranked 14th nationally and third in the region, while the men are ranked fifth in the region. Both teams are coming off a strong start at the Western Illinois Early Bird Invitational on August 31. Hawkeye sophomore Jesse Luciano won the men’s race in 25:26. Iowa women were led by sophomore transfer Fionna Fallon who placed ninth in 24:26. Both teams will host the Hawkeye Invitational Saturday at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City. The women will run 3,000 meters at 8:30 a.m. and the men 6,000 meters at 9 a.m. Other competing teams are Oregon State, Wichita State and the University of Northern Iowa. Admission to the event is free.
