PARK RIDGE, Ill. — University of Iowa senior Diane Nukuri has been named Big Ten women’s cross country Athlete of the Week. The Pickering, Ontario, native earned the award after winning the Hawkeye Invitational in a school and course-record time (13:14). Both 4,000-meter records (14:09) were previously held by Iowa’s All-Region Nikki Chapple and were set in 2004. Nukuri has competed in one race for the Hawkeyes this season.
“It was a great start to what we hope will be an exceptional senior season for Diane,” UI Coach Layne Anderson said.
It was Nukuri’s second career weekly honor from the Big Ten. Her last was Oct. 2, 2006 after she won the Auburn Invite in a school-record 16:10. Iowa’s next competition will be Sept. 30 at the Auburn Invitational.
