IOWA CITY, IA –
The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming teams hosted their annual black and gold intrasquad meet Saturday morning at the Fieldhouse Pool in Iowa City, IA. After black team captains Nate Keeling and Mindy Schulte, and gold captains Jake Moore and Ashley Dell held a draft to determine rosters this week, the swimmers entered the pool for their first competition of the year.
After the gold squad led for most of the competition the black team took the lead at 121-116 going into the final race. In the winner-take-all final relay the black squad’s Brian Farris edged Brad Jones in the final leg of the men’s 400 freestyle relay to win the meet 128-116.
“It was good to see the excitement and racing today,” said Hawkeye Head Coach Marc Long. “You can tell from the swimmers that this team wants to go somewhere. This is a really fun event and it’s just good to see the team racing events.”
The Hawkeyes will open the 2007-08 season Thursday at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. The meet is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
