IOWA CITY, IA — The University of Iowa women’s cross country team climbed to 18th in the fourth United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings of the year. The Hawkeyes were previously ranked 23rd. Both the Iowa men and women’s teams are ranked in the Midwest region. The Hawkeye women are ranked third, while the men are ranked eighth in the region.
Senior Diane Nukuri has led the women’s squad in 2007. She has received three Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors and broken three school records. All three honors came in the three meets she competed. Nukuri’s first honor was received after she set a 4,000-meter school and course-record (13:14) at the Hawkeye Invitational. Her second was awarded after she set a 5,000-meter school and course-record (15:55) at the Auburn Invite. Nukuri’s third award was presented this past week, after breaking the 6,000-meter school record (20:11) at the Pre-NCAA National meet.
The men and women’s next competition will be October 28 at the Big Ten Championship in Columbus, OH. The women will be running a 6K and the men will be running an 8K.
