IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa Associate Athletics Director Fred Mims has been named winner of one of the University’s top diversity awards. The announcement was made by the University’s Office of Equal Opportunity.
Mims was given a 2007 Distinguished Catalyst Award. He was one of four people honored by the Equal Opportunity and Diversity Office. The awards will be presented at the 2007 Catalyst Award Reception, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Wayne Richey Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union.
UI President Sally Mason will be the keynote speaker at this ninth annual Catalyst Award Reception and Award Ceremony. The Catalyst Awards honor creative initiatives by faculty, staff, students, student organizations and units/departments that enhance the UI’s commitment to achieving excellence through diversity. Recipients will be honored with a plaque, community recognition and a $500 cash award.
Mims has been involved with the Athletic Department’s student services and compliance division since the mid-1970’s. He was a baseball and basketball letterman with the Hawkeyes in the early 1970’s and followed his Iowa athletic career with a brief stint in professional baseball.
