AMES, IA – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving was in Ames today for a dual meet with the Iowa State Cyclones. In a very close meet throughout, the Hawkeyes were edged by a final score of 152-148. The meet was part of the HyVee CyHawk Series with two points at stake. The Cyclones now lead the series by a tally of 14-3. The loss drops the women’s dual meet record to 2-5.
“Iowa State swam a very good meet, they are well coached and you have to give them credit for pulling it out,” said Iowa head coach Marc Long afterwards.
The Hawkeyes were led by first place finishes from sophomore Christine Kuczek in the 100 (51.86) and 200 freestyle (1:52.42), junior Ashley Dell in the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.22), sophomore Julie deBruin in the 50 freestyle (23.97), freshman Katarina Tour in the 200 IM (2:09.46) and sophomore Margie Chamberlin who set a season best in the 200 butterfly (2:03.81).
The Hawkeyes will return to action on January 5 at the Florida International Invitational in Miami, FL.
