IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa freshman Richard Salhus has been named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week after he provided the Hawkeyes with four quality splits in the relay-exclusive Florida International Invitational in which Iowa dominated, outscoring the second-place team by 70 points. The Plymouth, United Kingdom native participated in the 200, 400 and 500 freestyle relays posting times of 1:26.73, 3:11.60 and 4:09.76, respectively. His fourth relay was the 200 butterfly which notched a winning-time of 1:36.52.
Salhus is honored with a weekly award for the first time in his career. This is the first weekly award for the Hawkeyes since Frank Van Dijkhuizen won Big Ten Diver of the Week earlier this season on October 30. Salhus is Iowa’s first Swimmer of the Week since Alison Gschwend earned the honor on December 13, 2006 and first men’s Swimmer of the Week since Jay Glenn Jr. on December 8, 1999.
