IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa standout basketball players Ronnie Lester and Michelle Edwards will be featured on the Big Ten Conference web site (www.bigten.org) as the league commemorates Black History Month and the accomplishments of some of its greatest African-American athletes.
Edwards will be recognized Friday, Feb. 8 and Lester on Friday, Feb. 22.
During her career as a Hawkeye from 1984-88, Edwards scored 1,821 points with 482 rebounds, 431 assists and 235 steals. The Boston, Mass., native led Iowa to the NCAA Tournament three times and the Hawkeyes won two Big Ten championships.
Lester was a three-time team MVP selection (1978-80) and is one of nine former Hawkeyes to have his number retired (12). Lester, a two-time all-Big Ten selection, is the fifth-leading scorer in Iowa history with 1,675 points.
