Hawkeyes Compete In ISU Classic

Ames, IA – The University of Iowa men and women’s track teams competed at the Iowa State Classic, Friday. The teams combined to set eight career bests.

For the men’s team, sophomore Ray Varner (22.21) and freshmen Chris Barton (22.68), Brandon McSkimming (22.83) and Matt Rammelsberg (22.89) each set career best times in the 60-meter hurdles. Rammelsberg also set a career mark in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55).

The 25th ranked women’s squad placed freshman Karessa Farley in the 60-meter hurdle finals, placing seventh in the prelims with a time of 8.53. The Hawkeyes also saw freshman Kimberly Stanford set a career best in the hurdles with a time of 8.78. Senior Tammilee Kerr posted a career best in the long jump with a leap of 18-10 ¾, bettering her previous mark by more than seven inches (18-3).

Competition at the ISU Classic will continue Saturday morning in Ames. Nine Hawkeyes will be competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle Saturday.
