COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team was in Columbus, OH, for day two of the 2008 Big Ten Swimming Championships. After the evening finals, the Hawkeyes are in ninth place with 104.5 points.

Iowa swimmers set season bests as well as top ten all-time times in every event of the evening including second all-time marks for freshman Katarina Tour in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.51) and junior Alison Gschwend in the 100 backstroke (55.39). Tour’s race was good enough for a sixth place finish while Gschwend finished in 14th; both times meet NCAA provisional qualifying standards.

“We are swimming very well and the times are showing it,” Said Head Coach Marc Long. “It’s been a great meet so far, and having almost matched our point total from last year already really makes me excited for another day of championship racing tomorrow.”
