Armstrong Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

March 25, 2008

IOWA CITY – The Big Ten Conference named University of Iowa senior Meghan Armstrong Track Athlete of the Week for her winning time of 4:26.62 in the 1,500 meters at the Shamrock Invitational. Her time also qualifies her for the NCAA Regional meet. Armstrong is the first Hawkeye runner in school history to earn the outdoor honor. There have been three Iowa athletes to ever earn the honor in a field event (Mandy Beck, Aisha James and Alana Redfern), the last came in 2003.

“This is a great way for her to start the outdoor season,” Head Coach Layne Anderson said. “Hopefully this leads to bigger and better things for her down the road.”

The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday, April 5, at the Auburn Invite, Razorback Invite or the Stanford Invite.
