IOWA CITY – The UI Department of Athletics announced today that Tim Doherty has been hired as the Director of Golf Operations at Finkbine Golf Course. He will begin his post immediately.
Doherty, who is a longtime Iowa City resident, joins the Hawkeye staff after serving as the PGA Golf Professional at Solon’s Saddleback Ridge Golf Course for seven years (2000-07). Under his direction, Saddleback was ranked the No. 1 course in the state of Iowa by golfink.com in the summer of 2007. Prior to his stint at Saddleback, he worked 14 years (1986-99) as the PGA Golf Professional at The Elks Country Club in Iowa City.
Doherty, who has 30 years of experience working in the golf industry, graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981 and was a student-athlete on the golf team from 1977-81. In 1987, Doherty graduated in the top five of his class at PGA Business School I.
