Former Hawkeye Defends USA Diving Title

April 22, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Former Hawkeye diver Nancilea (Underwood) Foster successfully defended her three-meter title at the 2008 Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships in Minneapolis, MN, last weekend. Her winning total of 345.15 included a reverse two and a half final dive that scored as high as a 9.0. Foster is the first women’s three-meter diver to defend her title at the event in the last four years.

“There are a lot of great divers on this event. It’s one of America’s deepest events, and I knew I had to nail my last dive to win,” Foster said.

With the win, she qualified to represent the United States in the three-meter event at the AT&T USA Grand Prix May 8-10 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. That will be her last competition until the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which are set for June 18-22 in Indianapolis, IN.

A native of Spring, TX, Foster is the only five-time all-American in Iowa women’s swimming and diving history. She set the school and Fieldhouse Pool three-meter records, and the school one-meter championship record. She was also a 2006 district academic all-America second team honoree and a three-time academic all-Big Ten selection.
