Tour Breaks 100 Fly Record

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — Hawkeye sophomore Katarina Tour broke her fifth school record of the 2008-09 season Sunday afternoon, swimming a collegiate-best 54.61 in the 100 fly at the Boiler-Make-It Last Chance Qualifier at West Lafayette, IN.

Tour, who broke the previous record of 55.49 set in 2005 by Kelly Werner, also swam a 1:02.64 in the 100 breast at the meet. The Stockholm, Sweden, native broke the school records in the 200 IM (2:01.33) and 100 breast (1:01.45), and swam on the school-record breaking 200 medley (1:41.33) and 400 free (3:21.27) at the Big Ten Championships last weekend.

Iowa’s next competition will be at the Zone C NCAA Diving Qualifier, March 13-15 at Minneapolis, MN. Hawkeye divers Michael Gilligan, Frank Van Dijkhuizen, Drew DeLashmutt, Deidre Freeman and Veronica Rydze will compete for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships. The women’s NCAA Championships will be held March 19-21, while the men’s event is set for March 26-28. Both meets will be held at College Station, TX, on the Texas A&M University campus.
