FAYETTEVILLE, AR — Hawkeye senior Renee White and sophomore Karessa Farley saw their 2009 outdoor track and field seasons come to an end earlier tonight at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, AR. The pair was Iowa’s final two NCAA competitors.
White placed 14th in the women’s triple jump preliminaries with a leap of 42-4 3/4, missing a spot in the 12-person event final by less than two inches. She ends her Hawkeye career as a two-time Big Ten triple jump champion, winning titles at the 2009 outdoor and 2008 indoor meets. She set Iowa school records in the indoor (42-4) and outdoor triple jump (43-10 3/4), as well as the Big Ten Outdoor Championships triple jump record of 43-10 3/4.

Farley placed 17th in the women’s 100-meter hurdles semifinal with a time of 13.56. Only the top nine placewinners advanced to Saturday’s event final. Farley ends the 2009 season with some outstanding accomplishments. She became Iowa’s first 60-meter hurdles all-American during the indoor season when she placed sixth at the NCAA Championships. She also set the school 60-meter hurdles record of 8.21. Farley earned an automatic bid and all-region honors with her collegiate-best and team-leading 13.34 in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Midwest Regional. That time ranks second all-time at Iowa. She also placed second in that event at the 2009 Drake Relays and fourth at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
