Carty Advances To Finals

MONTREAL, CANADA — Hawkeye sophomore Danielle Carty posted the second-fastest 50-meter backstroke preliminary time Friday morning at the 2009 Essais Mondiaux ROME World Championships Trials in Montreal. Carty, who swam a 29.24, was only .01 seconds off Tess Simpson’s winning 29.23. Carty will swim in the event finals Friday evening.

Earlier this week, Carty placed 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.59. The five-day meet serves as the qualifier for the 2009 FINA World Championships, which are set for July 18-August 2 in Rome.
