IOWA CITY – University of Iowa Head Diving Coach Bob Rydze announced today that senior Deidre Freeman and junior Veronica Rydze earned a seventh-place finish in the three-meter synchronized diving competition at the U.S. Diving Nationals in Tallahassee, FL, last week. Freeman also placed 10th in the three-meter individual event.
The pair qualified for the national meet by competing at the National Preliminary Zone C Diving Meet in Minneapolis in July. Freeman and Rydze placed first in the three-meter synchronized event and Freeman placed third on the three-meter board.
In 2009, the Hawkeye swimming and diving team will enter its final competitive season in their home Field House pool. The team will be moving into the brand new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center for the 2010-11 season. The new facility will include a 50-meter competition pool, a separate diving well, a leisure pool with lap lanes and 24,000 square feet of fitness space.
