Volleyball Hosts Black and Gold Scrimmage

Aug. 21, 2009

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa volleyball fans can get a sneak peek at the 2009 Hawkeyes tomorrow (Aug. 22) at the annual Black and Gold Scrimmage. Head Coach Sharon Dingman and the Hawkeyes will take the court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

“I’m really excited about this scrimmage,” said Dingman. “It’s great for the entire team, but particularly the freshmen. I want this to simulate a game day experience because this will be the first time they wear the Hawkeye uniform, walk down the tunnel, see their name on the scoreboard and play before a crowd. It’s also great for the players to go out and compete. We don’t have a lineup set for the season opener so this game day experience is extremely important.”

Iowa opens the regular season next Friday (Aug. 28) at the Loyola-Chicago Invitational in Chicago, IL. The Hawkeyes will host 13th-ranked Iowa State in their home opener at 7 p.m., Friday, September 11 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The intrastate matchup represents the first event in the annual Cy-Hawk Series.
