PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, CANADA– University of Iowa sophomore swimmer Danielle Carty and her relay team placed first in the 200-meter medley relay at the 2009 Canada Games Thursday night. The relay team qualified with a time of 1:50.40 in the preliminary round before breaking the senior Canadian national relay record with a time of 1.50.18 in the finals and placing first.
“We would like to congratulate Danielle on becoming a Canada Games Champion and for being a part of the Senior Canadian National Relay Record breaking team,” said Iowa Assistant Swimming Coach Kirk Hampleman. “We are excited to see how she does tonight in the finals of the 50-meter back”
Carty is seeded first going into finals in the 50-meter backstroke tonight (Aug. 28) after swimming a 28.11 in the preliminary round this morning.
