Carty Swims to Another First-Place Finish

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, CANADA– University of Iowa sophomore swimmer Danielle Carty wrapped up a stellar 2009 Canada Games performance with a first-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke Aug. 28. Carty qualified with a time of 28.11 in the preliminary round before posting a time of 27.97 in the finals.

“Danielle had a fantastic meet,” said Iowa Assistant Swimming Coach Kirk Hampleman. “Bringing home two Canada Games titles is a great achievement and we are extremely proud of her.”

Carty and her relay team placed first in the 200-medlay relay Aug. 27, breaking the senior Canadian national relay record with a time of 1:50.18. The Ontario, Canada native placed third in the 100-meter backstroke Aug. 26.
