AUSTIN, Tex. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team played its last round of the 2010 fall season Tuesday in Austin, Tex., at the 2010 Challenge at Onion Creek. The Hawkeyes posted a score of 914 (300-295-314) for the tournament, placing 11th out of 15 teams. Iowa State (884) claimed the tournament title, while UALR (887) and Illinois (890) finished second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Kristi Cardwell spearheaded the Hawkeye effort for a second straight day, shooting a team-low 75 (+5) in the third round. Her 54-hole score of 218 (+8) was good for a seventh place tie.
Junior Chelsea Harris ended the tournament tied for 29th after recording a 227 (+17). Senior Lauren Forbes carded a 232 for the event, finishing tied for 49th. Sophomore Gigi DiGrazia, playing in just her second tournament of the fall season, posted a 238 (+28). Senior Laura Cilek rounded out the Iowa scorecard with a three-round score of 245 (+35).
“It was a very disappointing end to a great fall season,” noted Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “We didn’t do much right today. I’m happy for Kristi and proud of her finish this week.”
Iowa competed in five events during the fall season, winning the Hawkeye Invitational and placing third at the Badger Invitational.
