A Hawkeye Story: 7 of 7

Dec. 27, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa – In the holiday season of giving and sharing, the UI Athletics Department invited the greatest fans in the world to share their most memorable black-and-gold experience. The wide variety of responses were full of unforgettable memories and reminiscent of why, “It’s Great to be a Hawkeye!” After having the privilege of reading each submission, a total of seven lucky winners were selected for online publication. We will post one entry per day on hawkeyesports.com from Dec. 21-27. Today’s entry comes from Teresa Blenner in North Liberty, IA:

“My favorite Hawkeye memory came to me right away!! It was the day of the Penn State game in 2008. It was so very cold, it was my first night game and I was so excited!!! We were playing well and the score was going back and forth and it was about all I could take!

It got down to that last play and I was a wreck. I sat down with my head in my hands. I just couldn’t watch him kick that field goal!!! My brother grabbed my coat at the shoulder and pulled me up, `You have to see the Hawkeyes all the way to the end! Don’t give up ! You have to watch!’

I stood there while that field goal was kicked and the crowd went crazy!! I cried like a baby. My brother and son-in-law said, `We are going over the wall to the field!’ So at 50 years old with a brother in his 60’s, we went over that wall with the crowd! It was the best memory ever! It is the only ticket stub I have ever kept. It is on my refrigerator and I see it every day. Thanks Hawks for that great day!!”
